Director’s Column |
|
Due to advances of science and
technology, economic development of society and increase in
personal earnings, the society has a lifestyle featuring
mass production and consumption. In order to pursue
consistency for the production materials, more chemical
synthetic substances are used to improve the past
inconsistency of natural materials. Yet, industrialization
has brought many negative effects, e.g. air pollution, water
pollution and various wastes, which are all potential
hazards to the environment. |
|
|
|
The Environmental Protection
Bureau is working proactively on environmental protection
measures to protect the natural environment, maintain
ecological balance, achieve sustainable use, and pursue
better health for the public and enhance the quality of
living environment. In the aspect of public nuisance
prevention, the Bureau is strengthening the treatment of
waste and prevention of water pollution, improving the air
quality of urban areas and enhancing the regulation of toxic
substances. Added with the promotion of environmental
education, it is hoped that the environment can be sustained
and enhanced. |
|
|
|
For the various tasks of
environmental protection, apart from the active
encouragement and action of the Government, public
participation is also indispensable. Recent problems such
as drinking water, air pollution and environmental hygiene
are all related to people’s daily life. If each of us can
make a little contribution in our daily life, e.g. recycling
resources, clearing away rubbish on roadsides, using less
chemical detergents, etc, it will be a great help to
environmental protection. Therefore, our joint efforts will
help to achieve the enhancement of the quality of
environment and the sustainable use of resources! |
|
|
|
Blue coasts, bright sunlight,
green forests and winding rivers running on a boundless
plain are all found in gorgeous Pingtung. All our efforts
have facilitated the reuse of resources and the sustainable
development of the environment. To give our descendants
wonderful mountains and waters, I am willing to work
together with the people of our county to protect the nature
and beauty of Pingtung. |
